Musical Director – Meryl Chambers

Meryl’s lifetime of teaching spanned periods as Head of Music at Quarrydale, Cumberland’s, Brunt’s and All Saints R.C. Schools.

Her abiding interest outside teaching has been the development of choral music in schools and the local community.  As well as leading our choir she is Musical Director of a successful girl’s choir called The Singers.

Meryl has been involved with our choir since the 1980’s.  Her present appointment has been since 2003 since when the choir has grown in size and reputation. She not only conducts, but when needed provides piano accompaniment.

Meryl’s contribution to the musical cultural life of Mansfield has been recognised by an invitation to a Buckingham Palace garden party and, more recently, the prestigious   Classic FM  “Music Teacher of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award





Margaret Ball – Accompanist

Margaret is a native of Mansfield Woodhouse. She started to learn piano at the age of 4, she went on to receive music tuition for piano and clarinet at  Birmingham School of Music. A retired school teacher, she taught and coordinated music at primary schools, directing school choirs and being involved in a wide range of musical drama productions.

Margaret has played church organ for over 40 years, and she went on to play for the last 20 at St Philip Neri RC  Church in Mansfield where she also accompanies the church choir. She has accompanied local solo artists and ensembles in a variety of concerts and has  been accompanist to our choir for 14 years






Ian Grice – Deputy Musical Director


 Ian, local born and bred, is one of the most influential members of our choir with 31 years service. He helps to select our repertoire, teaches music and conducts many pieces in concerts. Ian is also our main point of contact with other choirs including the Welsh  Association of Male Voice Choirs, giving us a breadth of musical  experience we otherwise would not have.

Ian is one of our primary soloists with a wonderful tenor voice. He is also a member of “The Gentlemen”, a nonet formed from  members of our choir.








 Gordon Blanc – Chairman

Gordon is life-long singer. An Irishman from Portarlington in the middle of an Irish bog, His forebears were Huguenots hence his French surname. Gordon was previously Chairman of Basingstoke MVC,with whom he toured extensively in Canada and the United States. He is a very experienced baritone and has been a real asset to the Mansfield MVC since he joined us in 2009 taking up Chairmanship of Mansfield MVC in April 2016

He is currently mentoring his grandson, Josh, also a baritone, in the Mansfield MVC. Gordon is a prominent member of the Sherwood Forest Community Church  in Blidworth.









David Marriott – President


David is born and bred Mansfield resident and a prominent local businessman. He is owner/director of Sally Twinkle a long-establish Mansfield haberdashery business in the town centre. As Director of the John Eastwood Foundation he is very involved in local charity work. David is also a very active member of All Saints Church, Clipstone. During the 5 years he has been President, David has been a true  friend of the Choir and a great ambassador.
