Choir ready to welcome new members in 2026

Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir is tuning up for the festive season with two major concerts – and urging people to join its ranks for 2026.

The first Christmas concert is on 6th December at The Hill Methodist Church, Kirkby, at 7pm.

Although the choir has previously performed in the church, it will be the first Christmas concert there, featuring a mix of traditional carols and family favourites, under the direction of Ian Grice and accompanied by Maureen Lockwood on the piano.

Tickets, priced £10, are available from the church on 07807 602435 or from choir secretary Eileen Lawrence on 01623 455373.

The second concert, at Forest Town Arena on 18th December, has already sold out. The event has been run for more than 20 years and this year sees the choir share the stage with Newstead Brass, ranked the 71st best band in the world and led by Martin Heartfield.

Looking ahead to the new year, the choir advised potential members that it has around 15 concerts per year, which are not always in the local area.

In 2026 visits are planned to Portsmouth and Bury St Edmunds, when Mansfield will share the stage with male voice and mixed choirs.

There will also be two hometown landmark concerts in 2026 at Mansfield Rugby Club.

A summer concert, which last year featured Ravenshead Swing Band, was so successful that it will be repeated with another guest performer on 20th June.

Earlier in 2026, on 28th March, Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir will perform with Welsh male voice choir Morriston Orpheus.

Ticket details will be announced at www.mansfieldmvc.co.uk for further details.

A spokesperson said: “These concerts, choir life, and the chance to become involved in a new and rewarding hobby in which you represent the town of Mansfield and make effective contributions to charity and the cultural life of our town await you — the potential new member.

“So come along and see us at rehearsals on Tuesdays at St Augustine’s Church, Mansfield, at 7.30pm.”
