VE Day Afternoon Tea at Norwood House, Southwell, Notts.

On Thursday 8th May a VE Day celebration tea took place at Norwood House for people who could remember VE Day joined by family and friends. Mansfield & District Male Voice Choir were pleased to sing after the tea to add a further dimension to the occasion.
Coincidentally, Sir John Starkey Bart., the owner of Norwood Park, had a birthday that day and the choir surprised him by starting the singing with an enthusiastic rendering of ‘Happy Birthday’ followed by three loud cheers.
A wide range of songs were presented, some covering subjects to match the event and others just for pure fun, like the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Medley. All of the songs were well received by the audience with smiles on many faces. The final song was Guide me O Thou Great Redeemer and the choir were joined by three former members and the audience were invited to join in. It was altogether a joyous occasion enjoyed by everyone in a beautiful venue.

Smiles all round! We don’t always have a huge audience but still pull out all the stops to give a professional and entertaining performance.

It felt really good to show our respect and honour all those brave people it felt even better on the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.

A concert with a difference, because of its ambience and intimacy. We were made very welcome by the organisers and Sir John who kindly donated to our charity and with a hope of future collaborations between us.
