Christmas Business

“Business!’ cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again, “Mankind was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The deals of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!” ― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

We know our business, as choristers, when it comes to Christmas. We do a lot of singing!

We sometimes moan a bit about how things can get a bit too busy with all the rehearsals and the concerts and the services but everybody knows that they love it really and wouldn’t want to be without the involvement in sharing our music at Christmastime.

Our Choir, after the process of heralding the start of Christmas, will be singing in three separate and completely different venues and all details are on the Events page.

The Choir receive numerous requests from various groups in our community to sing at various events and for different client groups. We cannot commit to sing to all of these requests but we are pleased, this year, for a group of choristers hoping to bring some Christmas cheer to the staff and residents of the Forest Care Centre, Southwell Road, Mansfield on the morning of Friday 15 December.

Mansfield & District Male Voice Choir will then  be performing at St John’s Church, Mansfield at a candlelight carol service on Sunday 17 December ( 6pm start).

The service will be an opportunity to enjoy, not only beautiful music, but to hear the Christmas message in the wonderful surroundings and atmosphere of one of the town’s most beautiful historic buildings.

This Christmas will see the first carol service in St John’s since it was re-opened in the summer after completion of major repairs to the roof of the building. Fund-raising still continues so that the restoration can be completed and there will be an opportunity for local folk to make a financial contribution to this work by way of an optional donation.

Finally Mansfield & District Male Voice Choir will be blending the brass and the voices with our good friends from Shirebrook Band at Forest Town Arena on Thursday 21 December ( 7:30pm start).

Singing this special music at this special time of year with its special message is indeed our joy and privilege and of course our “business”.

Happy Christmas Everybody!
